Midget auto racing at the annual Grundy County Fair dates back to 1936 when the fair and racing were held at Mazon, Ill. Since 1971, the fair has been held at the Grundy County Fairgrounds in Morris, Ill., home of the Grundy County Speedway.  During this year's 106th annual fair, the Illini Racing Series midgets competed at the speedway on June 30.  Phil Rider's photo shows the Illini midget racers giving fans a four-car-wide salute before the feature race that was won by David Budres.

Tom Reffner, of Rudolph, Wis., won the ARTGO Racing Wayne Carter Classic at the Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill.  The 59-lap race, honoring Wayne Carter, who brought auto racing to the Grundy County area, highlighted the Sunday afternoon program, which was the first ever ARTGO event.  September 7, 1975 saw Reffner and his '74 AMC Javelin defeat Bob Roper and Joe Shear.  Reffner is seen after his victory being congratulated by Art Frigo.
